If you have ever been part of a story that you hoped the press would pay attention to, only to be frustrated by what you saw as a collective "ho-hum" from media decision-makers, let me say this: I know how you feel.

This may surprise folks who believe newspaper editors and TV news producers conspire to pump up some stories and shelve others - speaking of unindicted co-conspirators, we'll talk about Richard Nixon in a moment here - but sometimes it's hard even for people who work in the media to convince journalists that a story deserves telling.
